About the Company

Our client is a manufacturer in Waterloo, Iowa that designs mechanical products and systems, with a design engineering team of up to 10 engineers.

The Role

The client is hiring at two levels. The Design Engineer and Senior Design Engineer work within the design engineering team to design mechanical products and systems that meet customer needs, from research and testing through manufacturing process development. The Senior Design Engineer works across a team of up to 10 Design Engineers.

What You Will Do

• Plan and complete engineering projects by studying customer requirements, market demand and competitor products; schedule and assign work and follow up on results.
• Evaluate mechanical systems and products through research programs applying mechanics, hydraulics and materials principles.
• Confirm product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods.
• Develop mechanical products by researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials and gathering operator input.
• Develop manufacturing processes focused on cost reduction and process improvement, including designing and modifying equipment for fabrication and assembly.
• Assure product quality by designing testing methods and confirming fabrication, assembly and installation.
• Prepare product reports, provide engineering information, and maintain the product database.
• Keep products compliant with government regulations and keep your technical knowledge current.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
• Design Engineer: 1-5 years of experience. Senior Design Engineer: 5+ years of experience.
• Advanced computer skills; technically proficient in Excel and design software
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Functional understanding of cost accounting
• An innovator who embraces lean enterprise principles and learns new tools quickly

Nice to Have

• Heavy haul trailer engineering experience
• Heavy equipment engineering experience
