Database Developer

Our client is one of the largest global investor service provider, servicing more than 55 million investors. 

They are continually investing in global technology and services across the spectrum of distribution channels including: Asset Managers, Financial Advisors, Wealth Managers and large financial institutions such as Banks and Insurers.

Global Investor and Distribution Solutions (GIDS) is the business unit offering this role. 

About the Role:

We are seeking a Development DBA to work as part of our Backend Engineering Team. 

The DBA will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of our database systems. 

The post holder will collaborate closely with backend developers, DevOps, and product teams to support scalable, secure, and efficient data solutions. In addition, the role will be responsible for ensuring our databases are documented to comply with GDPR regulations, with data being deleted at the appropriate time.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Database Design & Architecture:

• Collaborate with software engineers to design and optimize database schemas.
• Ensure data models align with application requirements and performance goals.

2. Performance Tuning & Optimization:

• Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies.
• Analyze query performance and recommend improvements

2. Maintenance & Monitoring:

• Perform regular database maintenance tasks including indexing, and updates.
• Set up and manage monitoring tools to ensure database health and uptime in collaboration with the Infrastructure Team

3. Security & Compliance:

• Implement and maintain database security policies.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

4. Automation & CI/CD Integration:

• Work with DevOps to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.
• Automate routine tasks using scripts and tools.

5. Incident Response & Troubleshooting:

• Respond to database-related incidents and outages
• Provide root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.

6. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:

• Maintain comprehensive documentation of database systems and procedures.
• Share knowledge and best practices with engineering teams;

Your Experience:

• Proven experience as a DBA in a software engineering environment.
• Strong proficiency in SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
• Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
• Knowledge of database versioning and migration tools (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase).
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Certified DBA with any major database vendor

Way of working: Hybrid (6 days/month in the office)
