About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Software Engineer (Java Backend) to join our engineering team. This role requires deep expertise in Java (5+ years) and strong experience in designing and building scalable backend systems.

As a technical leader, you will drive system architecture, mentor engineers, lead technical decisions, and collaborate closely with product, architecture, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance backend services.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale backend systems and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot
• Act as a technical authority on Java, ensuring best practices in performance, scalability, and maintainability
• Drive system architecture and technical design discussions, including API design, data modeling, and service decomposition
• Review code and provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers
• Establish and enforce coding standards, design principles, and best practices
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend teams, and QA to define technical solutions and deliver high-quality features
• Identify and resolve complex technical issues, performance bottlenecks, and system reliability concerns
• Lead initiatives to improve system performance, scalability, security, and observability
• Contribute to and review technical documentation and architectural decision records
• Stay current with backend technologies and proactively introduce improvements where appropriate

Requirements

5+ years of hands-on Java development experience, with strong proficiency in core Java and JVM-based systems

• Extensive experience with Spring / Spring Boot in production environments
• Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and backend services
• Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL), including schema design and query optimization
• Practical experience with ElasticSearch, including search, analytics, or performance tuning
• Proven ability to debug, troubleshoot, and optimize complex backend systems
• Experience in leading technical discussions and guiding engineering teams
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive projects from design to production
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) in production systems
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, etc.)
