Tanker & Gas Operator – Japan

Our client, a leading global provider of maritime, port and logistics services, is seeking a Tanker & Gas Operator to join its established team in Japan.

With a significant international network and a long-standing presence in the Japanese maritime market, our client provides a broad range of services to shipowners, operators and other stakeholders across the global shipping industry. The Japan business has an experienced and stable team and supports a diverse portfolio of international maritime customers.

The company is looking to strengthen its Tanker & Gas team with an individual who already has practical exposure to tanker vessel operations and wants to develop their career within an international maritime organisation.

This opportunity could suit either an experienced tanker operator capable of taking on increasing responsibility and potentially progressing towards an Operations Manager position in the coming years, or a younger shipping professional who has developed a solid foundation in tanker operations and demonstrates strong potential for future growth.

The Role

Working as part of the Tanker & Gas team, the successful candidate will be involved in the day-to-day coordination and management of vessel operations in Japan.

Responsibilities will include coordinating vessel calls and operational requirements, communicating with vessels, customers and other maritime stakeholders, resolving operational issues, and ensuring that services are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with customer requirements.

The position requires someone who can combine strong operational knowledge with a commercial and customer-focused mindset. As experience develops, there will be opportunities to take greater responsibility within the team and contribute more broadly to the development of the Tanker & Gas business in Japan.

Candidate Profile

Candidates should have relevant experience within tanker vessel operations, gained within a shipping company, ship agency, tanker operator, port services provider or related maritime organisation.

A good understanding of shipping operations and commercial practices is important, together with the ability to communicate effectively with vessels, customers, principals, port-related stakeholders and internal teams.

Our client is particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate initiative, reliability, commercial awareness and leadership potential.

While broader shipping experience is valuable, this search is specifically focused on professionals with exposure to tanker operations, rather than candidates whose experience has been predominantly within container shipping or dry bulk.
