Company Overview
Our client is an established freight forwarding and brokerage organization with a strong presence in cross-border and Canadian logistics. Over the past year, they have expanded into domestic U.S. freight brokerage, launching a physical office in Buffalo, NY.
Position Summary
The company is seeking a hands-on Branch Manager to lead and scale its Buffalo office. This individual will be responsible for day-to-day operations, team leadership, and office growth, while also contributing tactically in a player/coach capacity.
This is a critical hire intended to establish on-site leadership, build out the team, and drive the next phase of growth.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Serve as the on-site leader for the Buffalo branch
- Oversee daily operations and support existing staff
- Roll up sleeves and assist with load coverage, carrier sourcing, and execution as needed
- Build and maintain a reliable carrier network for U.S. domestic freight
Growth & Strategy
- Drive branch growth from ~$200K/month toward $5M annual revenue
- Expand U.S. domestic freight opportunities from existing Canadian accounts
- Identify and execute on low-hanging fruit within current customer base
- Participate in RFPs/RFQs and improve carrier capacity alignment
Team Building
- Recruit and hire additional operations and sales staff (target: 5–6 total employees)
- Potential to bring known talent (sales + ops) into the organization
- Train, mentor, and develop team members
Customer & Carrier Development
- Strengthen relationships with existing customers
- Build new carrier partnerships to support growth lanes
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Canadian team
Ideal Candidate Profile
Must-Have:
- Strong operations background in freight brokerage or forwarding
- Experience in truckload, LTL, and domestic U.S. logistics
- Proven ability to lead teams and scale operations
- Hands-on, roll up your sleeves mentality
- Experience working in early-stage or growth environments
Preferred:
- Prior branch manager, operations manager, or player/coach leadership experience
- Exposure to cross-border freight (Canada/U.S.)
- Ability to bring talent (sales and/or ops) into the organization
- Existing carrier relationships in U.S. domestic freight
Nice-to-Have:
- Book of business (not required, but considered in compensation)
