Join Applied Signal Technology (AST), an RTX Collins Aerospace company, a national asset in safeguarding the global community through signal intelligence, is seeking a Senior FPGA Section Manager to join our communications development team. AST provides trusted strategic and tactical signal intelligence solutions that protect the interests of the U.S. and its partners. In this role you will utilize your experience in team leadership, communication FPGA applications, signal processing and digital design concepts, FPGA development practices, and lab integration and Test to provide imaginative, thorough, practicable and organizationally aligned solutions to a wide range of difficult management and developmental challenges. AST’s work environment is dynamic, highly collaborative and provides engineers the freedom to strengthen and expand their skills, explore new and innovative ideas, and work directly with our nation’s finest service members all while embracing integrity, diversity, and work-life balance.
A successful candidate will manage engineers who are involved with development FPGA products over the entire engineering development lifecycle. Although the section staff will typically work on independent projects, the Section Manager will foster collaboration, cross-fertilization of ideas, incorporation of best-practices, leadership through guidance and mentorship, and daily support for group successes. A Section Manager will also contribute directly to engineering development as a task lead, technical lead, or individual contributor. The Section Manager’s responsibilities will occupy around 15% of their role with technical responsibilities accounting for the remainder of their time.

The salary range for this role is 85,000 USD - 179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Applied Signal Technology: WHO WE ARE
What You Will Do:
- Responsible for first line management of a group of 5-10 engineers.
- Plan, track, and support staff task assignments.
- Provide feedback on staff performance.
- Support staff career development planning.
- Assist with strengthening core engineering skills and best practices and developing domain knowledge and expertise across the AST Engineering organization.
- Assist with recruiting and onboarding activities.
- Ensuring staff compliance with company practices.
- Support for special management projects.
- Support staff engagement, recognition, and retention.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 8 years of relevant experience.
- FPGA product development experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued TS/SCI security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Strong leadership skills (functional management, technical leadership, mentorship, ethics).
- Strong execution skills (planning, development, best practices, coordination, ownership).
- Proven ability to design, implement, and document FPGA designs from component level specifications.
- Strong comprehension of HDL programming languages such as VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Strong comprehension of FPGA development environments and FPGA development tool flows.
- Experience with HW/SW concepts required to interface to FPGA applications.
- Experience with the resolution of FPGA integration and test issues in hands-on lab environments.
