- The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a full time Applied Climatologist (GS-1340-12) – to work at the HQ Air Combat Command, 16th Air Force, 557 Weather Wing, 2d Weather Group, 14th Weather Squadron, Data Operations Flight (CXD), OL Asheville, in Asheville, NC.

- In this position you will serve as a Meteorologist assigned to the 14th Weather Squadron Climate Operations Flight which serves as the technical authority on climatology and climate. The Climate Operations Flight analyzes archived observational meteorological and model data to produce specially tailored climate analyses and products used to support worldwide Department of Defense, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and intelligence operations and planning.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance
- A non-disclosure agreement must be signed
- This position is designated by the Air Force as a testing designated position under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program and is subject to random drug testing
- Professional knowledge of climatology and, meteorology is required.
- Skills in related fields to include physical geography, oceanography, hydrology, geology, statistics, and other geophysical and mathematical disciplines are highly desired.
- Ability to analyze what a customer asks for and create a detailed support plan that ensures the customer gets a product that best suits their needs and the ability to convert data and knowledge into products that are easy to understand and clearly convey the desired concepts and outcomes.
- Ability to quickly assimilate and evaluate available information to expeditiously provide solutions to customers’ meteorological, climatological, and hydrological needs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and groups carrying out large projects to include the ability to establish and maintain good relationships with individuals and groups within the office as well as outside the immediate work unit.
- Knowledge of computer disciplines such as software development techniques, configuration management, programming in Python and Structured Query Language (SQL), and web services is highly desired.
