Job Description:
ITEC is seeking a Site Operations Engineer that will be based out of Aurora, CO. The selected candidate will join as a member of the Operations Engineering team and provide support to a critical 24/7 system. Assignments can involve a combination of operations support tasks, systems analysis and training related tasks.This position will require a comprehensive 12-15-week training course, providing knowledge of a complex operational system. Upon completion of this training, the employee will be expected complete a set of 12-hour shifts and an on-the-job (OJT) checklist to earn their System Controller (SC) certification. After they certify as an operator day-staff engineers will need to work periodic crew shifts (12 hr. shifts) to maintain proficiency, and backfill vacant shifts as needed. Candidates must be able to work as an effective member of a badge-less team, be self-motivated and work under minimal supervision while coordinating and performing assigned tasks. This Site Operations Engineer will be responsible for some or all of the following tasks:
Job Responsibilities:
Development of products and CONOPS for the 24/7 operation of a mission critical system.
Troubleshooting of real-world operations issues.
Trending of operational data and simulation of products and CONOPS prior to transition to operations.
Maintaining systems operational state, ensuring health and safety of the systems while maximizing availability.
Review or develop standard operating procedures that are executed real time on the operational system for standard events and anomaly recoveries.
Develop scripts and products to automate the operation of complex systems.
Develop and/or improve suites of operational products for newly delivered systems.
Provide training to incoming engineers, to include providing classroom lecture and system simulator training.
Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience or 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Proficiency in Linux.
Ability to develop and maintain operational procedures, products and training materials.
Good presentation, coordination, and communication skills.
Ability to complete assigned tasks under general supervision.
Proficiency with basic scripting languages such as Perl, Python, TCL/TK, or Matlab.
Ability to complete necessary trainings to perform the job.
Ability to work within a multi-contractor "badge-less" team environment.
Ability to travel on occasion (2-3 time a year).
Exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to work periodic 12-hour shifts.
Desired Skills:
Ability to make decisions under high pressure to sustain basic system operations.
Experience with hardware and/or software systems used for real-time system control.
Experience with Radio Frequency (RF), Digital, Power, Thermal, Control and/or Communication systems design and operational use.
Comfortable working with Linux or other OS’ at the command interface level.
Knowledge of networking protocols, NIS/NIS+, LDAP & NFS.
Self-motivating with the ability to proactively complete assigned tasks.
Familiarity with an operational site environment are a plus.
