With a significant portion of our workforce based in Mexico, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to oversee our accounting and financial operations while contributing to our growth strategy.
Position Summary: The Controller will play a crucial role in managing the company's financial health, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, maintaining accurate financial records, managing the companys financial reporting process, and providing strategic insights to support decision-making. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will lead a team of accounting professionals, both in the U.S. and Mexico.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage different departments, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general accounting functions. This position will have X number of direct reports.
- Provide strong leadership and guidance to the accounting teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Manage and grow talent by providing feedback and clear guidance to the different team members across the Controllership group.
- Financial Reporting:
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP.
- Oversee statutory accounting and reporting for the local entity in Mexico, ensuring compliance with Mexican GAAP as well as local requirements and laws.
- Maintain effective accounting standards, policies, and processes to ensure that recording, analysis, and reporting of financial information are clear, consistent, and timely.
- Prepare financial information and reports required by key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the CFO and the Executive Committee on strategic initiatives and financial planning.
- Identify reporting needs, create and deliver relevant information that support and enhance management in their decision making.
- Internal Controls and Procedures:
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Establish, modify, document, and coordinate the implementation of proper internal control procedures.
- Design, review and implement and accounting or key financial policies, as needed.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
- Identify and support implementation of technology tools that could automate or simplify processes.
- Tax Compliance and Planning:
- Oversee tax compliance for the company, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal tax regulations in both the U.S. and Mexico.
- Prepare and file necessary tax returns, and manage relationships with tax authorities.
- Develop tax strategies to minimize liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support overall business objectives and align financial strategies with company goals.
- Provide support to the CFO, managing operations independently and ensuring technical accounting issues are addressed accurately.
- Audit Coordination:
- Liaise with external auditors and manage the audit process, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Review and analyze audit results and recommend for approval the audited financial statements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field; CPA required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Big 4 experience highly desired.
- Experience in the financial services industry, preferably in remittances or payment processing.
- Proven experience in leading and managing accounting teams.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial regulations, and compliance, including familiarity with Mexican accounting practices.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead cross-border teams. Experience in running operations in both the USA and Mexico is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in accounting processes, as well as software and financial management systems; experience with Oracle Net Suite is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated and open to being a hands-on problem solver.
