Job Overview:

The Mainframe Developer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting the mainframe-based applications, systems, and processes within our organization. This role requires strong technical expertise in mainframe programming languages, system integration, and performance optimization. The ideal candidate will have experience working with COBOL, JCL, and DB2, as well as a deep understanding of mainframe environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, code, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, and other mainframe technologies.
  • Design and implement new features and functionality for existing mainframe systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business analysts, project managers, QA, etc.) to understand system requirements and design technical solutions.
  • Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning for mainframe applications.
  • Support and enhance legacy systems, ensuring they remain reliable and efficient while meeting business needs.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Write technical documentation for system processes, code, and workflows.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for any mainframe-related issues.
  • Ensure the timely resolution of incidents and service requests related to mainframe systems.
  • Help with the integration of mainframe systems with modern technologies and platforms as part of system modernization efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience working as a Mainframe Developer or in a similar role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
    • Familiarity with IMS, VSAM, and other mainframe-related technologies.
    • Experience with mainframe debugging and performance tuning.
    • Strong knowledge of mainframe operating systems (e.g., z/OS).
    • Understanding of modern software development practices and mainframe integration techniques.
    • Experience with batch processing and transaction processing.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mainframe modernization projects.
  • Familiarity with cloud integration and microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git).
