POSITION: Engineering Technician (PLC)
Reports to: Chief of Engineering and Maintenance
Job Level: Full-Time/On-Site
Location: Jamaica
JOB PURPOSE
The PLC Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and associated automation systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. They work in various industries, from manufacturing to automated car washes, ensuring the smooth operation of automated equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install and configure PLCs, sensors, actuators, and other automation components, ensuring they are properly integrated into existing systems
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with PLC systems, using their knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Perform routine maintenance, including preventative maintenance tasks, to minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability
- Modify, debug, and potentially program PLCs to optimize performance or address specific needs
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, preventative maintenance logs, and other documentation
- Work with other teams, including engineers and other technicians, to resolve issues and improve processes
- Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations when working with electrical equipment and automation system
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BSc. in Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation / or related field, with a minimum of three (3) years experience
or
Diploma in Electronics & instrumentation / or related field with a minimum of five (5) years experience
- Experience with PLC programming languages
- Experience in the food industry would be an asset
- Basic understanding of general maintenance and other related areas
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES/SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, schematics, and wiring
- Familiarity with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Excellent troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex issues
- Ability to pay attention to details
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good organizational and coordinating skills
- Team player with initiative and a positive attitude
- Must be results-oriented
- High level of professionalism and integrity
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Good interpersonal, organizing, planning and coordination skills
- Ability to work shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays
