About the job Chief Economist

The Chief Economist is responsible for leading the organization's economic research, forecasting, and macroeconomic analysis functions. The role provides strategic insights on global, regional, and domestic economic trends to support executive decision-making, investment strategies, risk management, and business planning. The Chief Economist serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and represents the organization externally on economic matters.

Key Responsibilities

Economic Research & Forecasting

  • Lead macroeconomic research and economic forecasting activities.
  • Analyze global, regional, and local economic trends, monetary policy, inflation, interest rates, labor markets, and fiscal developments.
  • Develop economic outlooks and scenario analyses to support strategic planning.

Strategic Advisory & Decision Support

  • Provide economic insights and recommendations to executive leadership, investment committees, and the Board.
  • Support business strategy, investment decisions, and risk management initiatives with data-driven economic analysis.
  • Assess economic impacts on markets, industries, and organizational performance.

Market & Industry Analysis

  • Monitor financial markets, geopolitical developments, and industry-specific economic trends.
  • Identify economic risks and opportunities affecting the organization and clients.
  • Provide timely commentary on market-moving events and policy changes.

Research Publications & Reporting

  • Produce economic reports, forecasts, whitepapers, and thought leadership content.
  • Develop presentations and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of research outputs.

Stakeholder & Media Engagement

  • Represent the organization in conferences, media interviews, webinars, and industry events.
  • Engage with investors, regulators, policymakers, and clients on economic topics.
  • Build the organization's reputation as a trusted source of economic insight.

Collaboration Across Business Functions

  • Work closely with investment, strategy, risk, finance, and treasury teams.
  • Support product development and client advisory initiatives with economic intelligence.
  • Collaborate with analytics and research teams on data interpretation and forecasting models.

Risk & Scenario Analysis

  • Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis related to economic conditions.
  • Assess macroeconomic risks impacting business operations and investment portfolios.
  • Provide guidance during periods of economic uncertainty or market volatility.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor economists, analysts, and research teams.
  • Foster a culture of analytical rigor, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Develop research capabilities and economic modeling expertise across teams.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD preferred) in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, or related field.
  • 12–15+ years of experience in economic research, financial markets, central banking, academia, or policy advisory roles.
  • Strong expertise in macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, and economic modeling.
  • Experience presenting complex economic concepts to executive and external audiences.
