JOB SPECIFICATION

Core Functions:

The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager in the Accounting and Reporting function of the Company. The incumbent is expected to remain apprised of the company's operations, macro-economic variables (changes in interest rates, new security issues, competitor products, financial performance etc.), generally accepted Accounting practices, International Accounting Standards and the stated policies and procedures of the company.

Education/Experience:

  • B.Sc. Accounting/Finance/Business or equivalent (e.g. ACCA Level 2) or equivalent qualification  from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Two (2) years experience in Accounting at the supervisory level.
  • Experience in a Bank, Life Insurance Company or Financial institution preferred.

Specialized Skills, Techniques/Learned Disciplines:

The incumbent should have a working knowledge of a broad range of disciplines such as:

  • IFRS Financial Reporting
  • Basic Financial Analysis
  • Taxation
  • Accounting practice in financial services entities

The incumbent should possess excellent organizational and time management skills, communication skills, flexibility and an ability to manage the variety of tasks assigned. The incumbent will also require a working knowledge of policies and procedures and knowledge of the company's operations.

1. Knowledge of stated policies & procedures

2. Knowledge of the company's products, services and operations

3. Knowledge of preparation of routine IFRS compliant financial statements

4. Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and tax law

5. Thorough knowledge of Accounting principles and practices

6. Proficiency with Spreadsheet software (preferably MS Excel)

7. Proficiency with software used by the entity to record financial transactions

  • Ongoing education/qualification in the field of Accounting or Financial Management
  • Normal office environment
  • Frequent work outside of normal business hours and occasionally on weekends
