Job Title: Accounting Officer Insurance Accounting

Core Functions:

  • Provide accounting support to the Insurance Accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions related to insurance operations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for insurance entities in accordance with IFRS and internal reporting standards.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and perform reconciliations for insurance-related balances including premiums, commissions, claims, and reinsurance.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process through data collection and variance analysis.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders (e.g., auditors, brokers, reinsurers) to facilitate financial and operational reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of effective internal controls within the insurance accounting function.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Pursuing ACCA, CPA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) - three (3) years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within the insurance or financial services sector.

Specialized Skills, Techniques/Learned Disciplines:

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in preparing financial data.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet critical deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and provide meaningful insights.
