Position Title: X-Ray Technologist

Location: Grande Prairie, AB

Shift Imaging is a community based, medical imaging provider specializing in the delivery of state-of-the-art care to the underserved populations across Northern Alberta.

Our imagers are fully certified and fellowship trained providing modern pain management therapies, echocardiography, obstetrical ultrasound, general ultrasound, and x-ray.

Were privileged to be the Peace Regions first imaging provider to locally offer:

  • Nuchal translucency ultrasound (the 11 -13 weeks scan), with all radiologists and technologists meeting the standards set forth by the Fetal Medicine Foundation.
  • Echocardiography capable of Automated Function Imaging (AFI) to more accurately assess wall motion at rest.
  • Special liver studies including Sheerwave Elastography (fibrosis staging) and UGAP (ultrasound guided attenuation parameter), enabling quantification of liver steatosis to aid in early identification and monitoring of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
  • An all-in-one stop for pain management including diagnosis, treatment, specialist referral, and rehabilitation.
  • Radiofrequency neurotomy (RFN) for the treatment of facetogenic low back pain.
  • Shift Imaging is recognized as a training centre by the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists. Our compassionate and highly skilled Radiological Technologists are trained in the theory and practice of special image guided procedures.

Position Summary:

Takes x-rays of designated parts of the human body for diagnostic purposes and provides support for the imaging department, including Shift Imagings walk-in x-ray and pain management services. Optional mammography shifts and BMD training are available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Explains procedures to patients to ensure understanding. Provides appropriate educational materials and obtains informed consent.
  • Verifies patient identity according to policies and procedures. Prepares patients for radiology exams by positioning the patient for the procedure.
  • Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevents patients from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable regulations.
  • Observes patients during procedure and reports abnormal activity. 
  • Monitors protocols and recommends updates or refinements as warranted.
  • Ensures prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning. Reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel (either department manager or office manager).
  • Practice sterile techniques, maintain aseptic conditions and always use universal precautions.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong computer skills with Electronic Medical Record experience.

  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

  • Able to perform daily tasks independently and as part of a team, while developing strong relationships and closely coordinating with staff of other departments.

Qualifications:.

  • Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program.

  • Certified and currently registered with Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT).
  • CLXT designation may be considered.
  • At least 12 months of prior related clinical experience preferred. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) and Mammography is considered an asset but not mandatory for the position.
  • CPR/BCLS for healthcare providers required.
