Weld Technician | East Lansing, MI

Salary Range: $41,000 - $66,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Perform welding operations according to blueprints and specifications using various welding techniques.
• Inspect welds for quality, integrity, and adherence to standards, identifying and rectifying defects.
• Set up and operate welding equipment, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance.
• Prepare materials for welding, including cleaning, grinding, and fitting components.
• Troubleshoot and resolve welding issues to maintain production efficiency.
• Maintain accurate welding records and documentation.
• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures in the workshop environment.
• Assist in the selection and procurement of welding consumables and equipment.

Recommended Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary welding certification preferred.
• Proven experience in various welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining welding equipment.
• Strong understanding of metallurgy and weldability of different materials.
• Experience with quality control and inspection procedures for welds.

Bonus Qualifications

• - Experience with robotic welding systems
• - Certification in non-destructive testing (NDT) methods like MT, PT, or UT
• - Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
• - Basic understanding of CAD software for reviewing weldment drawings
