NPI Engineer | Grand Rapids, MI

Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and validate manufacturing processes for new products.
• Collaborate with R&D and design teams to ensure manufacturability (DFM/DFA) of new designs.
• Specify, procure, and qualify new equipment and tooling required for NPI.
• Manage and execute prototype builds, pilot runs, and first article inspections.
• Create and maintain comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including BOMs, routings, and work instructions.
• Monitor and improve process yields, quality, and reliability during the NPI phase.
• Facilitate the smooth transition of new products from NPI to volume production.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical).
• 3-5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or NPI role.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Proven experience in developing, documenting, and optimizing manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures.
• Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools for product launch coordination.
• Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for production issues.

Bonus Qualifications

• Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
• Proficiency in advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) for design review.
• Experience with specific ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) beyond basic data entry.
• Strong data analysis skills (e.g., Python, R, advanced Excel) for NPI metrics.
