Salary Range: $54,000 - $84,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are partnering with organizations in Walker that are seeking Lead Machinists. Key Responsibilities

  • Train, mentor, and oversee a team of machinists, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Program, set up, and operate advanced CNC machinery and conventional tools.
  • Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot machining issues, implementing corrective actions to optimize production.
  • Perform precision measurements and quality checks using various metrology instruments.
  • Develop and optimize machining processes, tooling, and fixturing for improved efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure manufacturability and product quality.

Recommended Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a machinist, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Expertise in operating and programming CNC machinery (e.g., mills, lathes) and manual machining equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications.
  • Strong understanding of various metals, cutting tools, and machining processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and lead a team of machinists.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality control and continuous improvement.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with 5-axis machining and complex geometries
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam) for programming and design
  • Prior experience in a leadership or mentoring role within a machine shop
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and metrology
  • Certification in a relevant field (e.g., NIMS, Tool & Die Maker)
