Salary Range: $56,000 - $88,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and modify precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges according to engineering specifications.
  • Operate and program a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
  • Perform skilled maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of existing production tooling to ensure optimal performance.
  • Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine dimensions, tolerances, and material requirements.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to inspect finished tools and components for accuracy and quality.
  • Select appropriate materials for tool fabrication based on application, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production staff to resolve tooling issues and improve manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Completed Tool Maker apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience (e.g., 5+ years).
  • Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs).
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings, including GD&T.
  • Skilled in using a wide range of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMM).
  • Strong knowledge of various tool steels, carbides, and other materials used in tooling, along with heat treatment processes.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair tooling issues.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam).
  • Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, vision systems).
  • Knowledge of various heat treatment processes for tool steels.
  • Experience with EDM or other specialized machining techniques.
