Materials Manager | Portage, MI

Salary Range: $85,000 - $125,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of materials.
• Develop and implement inventory control strategies to optimize stock levels and minimize waste.
• Lead and mentor a team of materials planners, buyers, and warehouse personnel.
• Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and favorable terms.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality departments to ensure material availability and quality standards.
• Analyze material usage, forecast demand, and identify potential supply chain risks and mitigation strategies.
• Implement and maintain material master data within the ERP system.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in materials management processes and systems.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
• 7+ years of experience in materials management within a manufacturing environment
• Proven track record of optimizing inventory levels and improving on-time delivery
• Strong understanding of ERP systems and their application in materials planning
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high-performing materials team

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle for materials management and supply chain optimization.
• Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Supply Chain Professional (CSCP).
• Proven track record of implementing Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies in a materials management context.
• Familiarity with hazardous material handling and relevant safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT).
