Salary Range: $78,000 - $118,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize laser welding processes and parameters for new and existing products.
  • Troubleshoot laser welding equipment and process issues to maintain production quality and uptime.
  • Design, develop, and implement laser welding fixtures and tooling.
  • Establish and maintain quality control standards and inspection methods for laser welded components.
  • Perform or oversee preventative maintenance and calibration of laser welding systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing technicians and operators.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for laser welding efficiency and defect reduction.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Welding, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting industrial laser welding processes.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, material science, and the weldability of various metals.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex laser weld defects using root cause analysis.
  • Experience with laser safety standards (e.g., ANSI Z136.1) and quality control methodologies (e.g., SPC, FMEA).

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced metallurgical analysis techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, EBSD) for weld characterization.
  • Proficiency in programming industrial robots or PLCs for automated laser welding systems.
  • Familiarity with welding simulation software or finite element analysis (FEA) for process optimization.
  • Strong statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE) skills for process improvement.
