Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
• Operate a variety of machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs to fabricate tool components.
• Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine specifications and tolerances.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with existing tooling, performing necessary adjustments or repairs.
• Perform precision measurements using inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators to ensure quality.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool performance and improve manufacturing processes.
• Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a formal Tool Maker apprenticeship program or 5+ years of equivalent hands-on experience.
• Proficiency in operating and setting up a range of manual and CNC machine tools (mills, lathes, grinders, EDMs).
• Expert ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and GD&T.
• Demonstrated skill in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges, optical comparators) to verify part accuracy.
• Solid understanding of various tool steels, carbides, and heat treatment processes.
• Proven troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving tooling malfunctions and production issues.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software for design and programming
• Experience operating CMMs or other advanced metrology equipment
• Knowledge of various welding techniques for tool repair or modification
• Familiarity with automation or robotics integration in manufacturing
