Salary Range: $78,000 - $118,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are partnering with organizations in Portage that are seeking Laser Weld Engineers. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize laser welding processes for new and existing products.
  • Design and implement laser weld tooling and fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot laser welding equipment and process issues on the production floor.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of weld defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure weldability and manufacturability.
  • Establish and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and control plans.
  • Perform process capability studies and statistical process control (SPC) analysis.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in laser welding processes within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in programming and operating laser welding systems (e.g., fiber, YAG, CO2 lasers).
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, material science, and weld joint design.
  • Experience with weld quality inspection techniques (e.g., destructive/non-destructive testing, metallography).

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with fiber optic laser delivery systems.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot robotic welding systems (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka).
  • Knowledge of material science, specifically metallurgy related to welding.
  • CAD software proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
