Lead Machinist | Allegan, MI

Salary Range: $55,000 - $85,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and train junior machinists on equipment operation and safety protocols.
• Program, set up, and operate CNC machinery for complex part production.
• Interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to ensure precise manufacturing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues, including tool wear, material defects, and machine malfunctions.
• Perform quality control inspections on finished parts using precision measuring instruments.
• Maintain and perform preventative maintenance on machining equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize manufacturing processes and improve efficiency.

Recommended Qualifications

• Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in precision machining and fabrication
• Proficiency in operating and programming CNC mills and lathes
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
• Experience with a variety of materials, including exotic alloys

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CAD/CAM software for programming CNC machines.
• Proficiency in a second machining discipline (e.g., welding, grinding).
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior machinists or apprentices.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on continuous improvement or lean principles.
• Certification in a relevant area, such as a specialized machining technique or quality control.
