Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are partnering with organizations in Byron Center that are seeking Laser Weld Engineers. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize laser welding processes for new and existing products.
  • Design and implement tooling and fixtures for laser welding applications.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for welding defects.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure weldability and manufacturability.
  • Conduct material characterization and metallurgical analysis of welded components.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and control plans.
  • Provide technical support and training to production personnel on laser welding processes.
  • Evaluate and recommend new laser welding technologies and equipment.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in laser welding processes and equipment within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in laser weld parameter development, optimization, and process control for various materials (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, exotic alloys).
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and applying them to weld design and inspection.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgical principles related to welding, including defect analysis and material characterization.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with other welding processes (e.g., TIG, resistance welding)
  • Familiarity with robotic programming and automation for laser systems
  • Knowledge of material science and metallurgy related to weldability of various alloys
  • Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis for process optimization
  • CAD/CAM software experience for fixture design or path generation
