Laser Weld Engineer | DeWitt, MI
Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity
We partner with manufacturers across DeWitt seeking Laser Weld Engineers who want more than a lateral move. These companies hire intentionally, and we connect them with professionals ready for roles that fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize laser welding processes for new and existing products.
- Design and implement laser welding fixtures and tooling.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for welding defects.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure weldability and manufacturability.
- Conduct material characterization and mechanical testing of laser welded joints.
- Generate and maintain detailed process documentation, including work instructions and control plans.
- Provide technical support and training to production personnel on laser welding equipment and processes.
Recommended Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years experience in laser welding processes, equipment, and materials in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of metallurgical principles and their application to welding dissimilar materials, especially stainless steels, aluminum, and high-nickel alloys.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and performing root cause analysis for weld defects.
- Experience with process development, optimization, and qualification (e.g., IQ/OQ/PQ).
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with high-power fiber lasers (>5kW)
- Familiarity with in-situ process monitoring techniques (e.g., thermal imaging, spectroscopy)
- Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Knowledge of robotic programming for laser applications
- Understanding of material science principles related to laser-material interaction
