Description:
The company is seeking a mechanical engineer with strong CAD skills to help design parts and assemblies for a high-speed, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at our R&D center in Petaluma, CA. Our team is developing an eVTOL aircraft with extreme performance capabilities to help first responders reach the scene of an emergency as fast as possible. Our concept of operations for electric aircraft technology has the potential to cut first response times in half in rural areas -- helping save tens of thousands of lives each year. We are a team of aerospace professionals with deep aviation roots and insight into the evolving regulatory requirements for the coming advanced air mobility revolution. Responsibilities:
- Design aircraft parts and assemblies in close coordination with other team members
- Develop loading specifications for each part derived from ASTM standards
- Conduct Finite Element Analyses (FEA) of parts and assemblies
- Develop and maintain/iterate CAD models of parts and assemblies
- Design installation jigs and fixtures
- Create documentation to support compliance determinations
- Create engineering drawings of parts using GD&T best practices
- Interface with inside and outside machine shops
- Support the testing effort
- Support the certification effort
Requirements:
- Mechanical or Aerospace engineering degree
- CAD proficiency
- FEA proficiency
- Familiarity with aerospace materials, standards, and design practices
- GD&T working knowledge
- Willingness to work on-site in Petaluma, CA with a small and diverse development team
- Willingness to work with outside partners and suppliers
Desirable:
- Shop experience -- hands-on engineer
- Experience with NASTRAN
- Experience with design of composite structures
- Experience with failure modeling of composite structures
- Sheet metal design experience
- Aircraft certification experience
