The Role: Safety Officer

The Safety Officer plays a key role in ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and fire protection industry standards across all project sites. Reporting to the HSE Manager or Operations Director, the role is responsible for implementing and maintaining safety systems, conducting site audits, managing risks, training staff, and ensuring accurate safety documentation. This role supports the wider goal of maintaining safe and compliant project environments in line with statutory and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in safety management within construction, industrial, or fire protection environments
  • Implement, monitor, and enforce health and safety policies, procedures, and systems across multiple project sites
  • Conduct regular OSHEM (Occupational Safety, Health, Environment & Management) audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Identify hazards, propose corrective actions, and track implementation
  • Prepare and maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and compliance records
  • Facilitate safety training, toolbox talks, inductions, and awareness programs
  • Investigate incidents, document findings, and recommend preventative measures
  • Support client safety audits and align HSE deliverables with contractual requirements
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and clients on safety matters

About You

  • 3–5 years experience in safety management within construction or fire protection environments
  • NQF Level 5 or higher qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
  • SACPCMP registration as a Health & Safety Officer (Candidate or Professional) – mandatory
  • SAMTRAC or NEBOSH certification – advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of South African OHS legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and risk awareness
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transport – essential
