Job Purpose
To conduct engineering inspections, repairs, and maintenance work on buildings and facilities infrastructure, ensuring efficient operations and minimal disruptions.

Section A: Key Performance Areas

1. Repairs (40%)

  • Diagnose root causes of failures and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Execute carpentry, building, roofing, and facilities repairs to ensure minimal operational disruptions.
  • Apply technical and engineering standards for optimal maintenance and repairs.
  • Complete maintenance job cards and document all work (e.g., Shop Ware).
  • Collaborate with Production teams to proactively address potential problems and support planned maintenance.
  • Provide detailed reports on repair activities to the Quality Assurance Engineer.
    Indicators:
  • Timely root cause analysis and defect resolution.
  • Minimized equipment downtime.
  • Production support provided with positive feedback.
  • Quality standards maintained and documented.

2. Maintenance (20%)

  • Perform routine inspections and necessary maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with Supervisors/Production for scheduled maintenance.
  • Ensure parts availability for efficient maintenance execution.
  • Compile reports for Quality Assurance on unusual conditions.
    Indicators:
  • Timely completion of inspection checklists.
  • Reduced equipment failures.
  • Preventative and predictive maintenance executed.
  • Accurate and timely feedback provided.

3. Training (10%)

  • Assist in training Apprentices for maintenance and repair duties.
  • Prepare training machines to facilitate effective equipment training.
    Indicators:
  • Apprentices capable of performing maintenance tasks.
  • Positive feedback on training sessions.

4. Compliance (10%)

  • Operate within organizational controls and procedures.
  • Identify and report risks or areas of concern to management.
  • Promote adherence to regulations and minimize wasteful expenditure.
    Indicators:
  • Full compliance with relevant procedures.
  • Risks reported promptly.

5. Cost Control (5%)

  • Support efficient use of financial and other resources.
  • Monitor expenditure and report deviations.
    Indicators:
  • Reduced costs and minimized waste.

6. Customer Service (5%)

  • Maintain strong working relationships with employees and customers.
  • Resolve problems efficiently while upholding integrity.
    Indicators:
  • High client/employee satisfaction.
  • Minimized discrepancies.

7. Staff Supervision (10%)

  • Facilitate ongoing training and development of employees.
  • Address employee concerns promptly and equitably.
    Indicators:

  • Concerns/issues resolved in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Grade 12 Certificate (NQF 4)
  • Handyman Training Courses

Advantageous:

  • Experience with Facilities Management companies.

Experience

Minimum:

  • Up to 3 years of technical, maintenance, and facilities experience as a Handyman in a manufacturing environment.

Advantageous:

  • Prior employment in Facilities Management.
