About the job Site Agent: Civil/Pipeline
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Site Agent will be responsible for the management of the construction site in order to achieve required project delivery to the Clients objectives, while maintaining standards of health and safety, quality, environmental impact and cost control. The Site Agent will deliver multiple on-going projects, to the specified quality, the required programme and to the maximum commercial performance. The post-holder will work closely with the Commercial/Business Development Department, Engineers and Surveyors to ensure that projects are completed in a safe manner whilst Client requirements and expectations are always maintained or exceeded.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and Production Management.
- Oversee and ensure that the execution of the assigned tasks meets the targets set for every day.
- Plan weekly to monthly targets and measure actual work against planned targets.
- Compile a working programme in line with the baseline program.
- Update program on weekly bases.
Plant Management.
- Ensure the right equipment is available to execute the tasks given and check every morning with the operator on the vehicle checklist to identify possible problems
- Ensure maintenance (including cleaning) of plant is up to date.
- Discourage misuse of company vehicles and equipment.
Commercial Management.
- Ensure that all work done is recorded correctly and is documented in the Quantity files on site and liaise with the Quantity Surveyor.
- Conduct measurement of construction works.
- Identify all payable items on site and provide backup for payment certificates.
- Compile calculation sheets.
Quality Management.
- Ensure that the Quality Control Sheets are up to date and liaise with the Quality Manager to identify possible problems and rectify to ensure zero tolerance.
- Compile, populate and update quality data packs
- Ensure continuous improvement of the quality management systems.
- Check the quality of stock arriving with the Quality Manager and Store man.
Management of Client Relationships.
- Engage with the Client on all construction queries and obstacles.
- Document and sign off all confirmed verbal instructions.
- Keep accurate records of changes to Client specifications and working practices and make regular reports to management.
- Resolve typical problems encountered, including the late delivery of building materials and the absence of workers due to sickness.
- Efficiently manage work programs to ensure they are flexible enough to overcome such anomalies
- Conduct on-site meetings with other professionals such as quantity surveyors, contract negotiators, building foremen and representatives of the client company
- Arrange meetings with engineers and architects to address any core problems with building infrastructure.
Financial Management.
- Compile daily and weekly costing.
- Request and order materials ready to be used.
- Control wastage of materials on site.
Subcontractor Management and Internal Staff
- Ensure continuous training and transfer of skills to upcoming subcontractors.
- Track production and progress schedules for subcontractors in line with the main contractors objectives.
- Hold regular meetings with subcontractors.
Safety & Environmental Management.
- Assess the progress of on-site work to ensure it is being performed within regulations and to contract specifications
- Ensure all daily safety documentation is communicated to employees.
- Report all incidents and near misses to the relevant personnel.
- Communicate and encourage safe working on site.
- Put in place ways to preserve the natural resources and the surrounding environment.
- Ensure all employees have adequate mandatory PPE.
- Regularly test materials and machinery to ensure they are working efficiently and fall within industry guidelines for safety and durability
- Hold safety committee meetings with the relevant safety personnel.
Administration.
- Keep documents in an accessible area.
- Arrange drawings in a sequential order.
- Mark superseded drawings and keep away from the working drawings or destroy
- Ensure all meetings are recorded and that minutes are in place.
- Keep daily diaries and site instructions updated.
- Ensure all information has back up.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- ND in Civil/Mechanical/C&I Engineering
- Project Management Certificate or Diploma
- 10 + year experience working in a construction environment, with steel or ductile bulk water pipelines, water treatment plant, water retaining structures, reservoirs, and other water infrastructure projects.
- MS Office Suite
- Registration with SACPCMP and ACPM
- Proficient with MS Office suit,
- Exceptional communication skills with the team and clients
- Sound knowledge and understanding of reading and interpretation of drawings.
- Valid drivers license is essential
