About the job CNC programmer
My client is seeking a Digital Fabrication Expert to join our team and translate 3D models (BIM) into optimized robot milling machine code. This full-time role serves as the crucial link between project technical development and factory production, ensuring the seamless execution of mass timber fabrication through robotic programming and CNC automation.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in CNC milling, CNC laser cutting, or robotic programming, with a strong understanding of CAD to CAM processes, toolpath planning, code generation, and manufacturing environments. Experience with timber at an industrial scale will be advantageous. Working closely with our design and manufacturing teams, this role will ensure that digital models are efficiently converted into high-quality mass timber parts that contribute to the success of high-profile projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize robotic machining toolpaths from 3D building information models (BIM).
- Generate robot code for the drilling, milling, and cutting of highly differentiated CLT and Glulam parts.
- Work with digital design and CAD to CAM software to prepare files for robotic execution.
- Collaborate with the technical team as well as project-specific designers and engineers to ensure that timber parts can be produced efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain and organize fabrication files and production documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and version control within project timelines.
- Troubleshoot and refine toolpath strategies to improve production efficiency and minimize material waste.
- Support the ongoing development of automation and digital fabrication workflows for mass timber construction.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Experience in subtractive manufacturing at a commercial scale, such as Robotic Milling, CNC machining, and/or CNC laser cutting.
- Proficiency with Digital Design Software, ideally Rhinocerous 3D.
- Experience with CAM programming, ideally SprutCAM.
- Working knowledge of robot programming languages (KRL) and/or G-code.
- Experience with toolpath optimization, machining strategies, and efficiency improvements to enhance precision and material utilization.
- A certified qualification from a merSETA-accredited institution or formal Kuka robotic training is advantageous but not essential.
- A good understanding of digital manufacturing principles, including a basic understanding of DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Package & Remuneration
- A full-time position working on cutting-edge robotic timber fabrication.
- An active role in the execution of environmentally sensitive projects in various locations.
- Hands-on experience in robotic programming and CNC machining of mass timber.
- Collaboration with an innovative team and within broader multidisciplinary projects.
- Exposure to advanced digital fabrication technologies.
- Opportunities for skill development and professional growth in a young company.
- A competitive salary and participation in the Employee Share Option Programme.
