We work on diverse projects ranging from structural and building construction to materials evaluation, with offices in Gillitts (KwaZulu-Natal), and team members stationed in Gauteng and Richards Bay.

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with a strong background in Civil Engineering, specifically in the construction of structures and buildings. The ideal candidate will be professionally qualified and registered with a recognized professional body (ECSA, SACPCMP, or similar). This is a contract position for the duration of a specific project or projects, with the potential for extension based on project timelines and performance. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for leading and managing multiple construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Planning & Management
    • Lead and manage construction projects from conception to completion.
    • Develop comprehensive project plans including scope, budget, timelines, and resource allocation.
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, and contractual consultants to ensure project alignment.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant construction regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, consultants, and contractors.
    • Maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders, ensuring smooth project execution and resolving issues promptly.
    • Prepare regular progress reports and hold project meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  3. Team Leadership & Coordination
    • Lead and mentor project teams across multiple sites in Southern Africa.
    • Delegate responsibilities effectively to ensure project milestones are met.
    • Provide leadership in managing risks, quality control, and contractual compliance.
  4. Financial Oversight
    • Oversee project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
    • Work closely with the Quantity Surveyors to manage project financials and address any budgetary concerns.
    • Approve project expenses, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  5. Risk Management & Compliance
    • Identify and mitigate project risks.
    • Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to assess progress, safety, and quality.
  6. Quality Assurance
    • Oversee all aspects of quality management throughout the construction process.
    • Ensure projects are completed to the highest industry standards.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Professional Registration: Registered with a recognized professional body (ECSA, SACPCMP, or equivalent).
  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. A postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience in civil engineering, specifically in building and structural construction.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and project management principles.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in construction project management software and tools.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading teams and managing complex, multidisciplinary construction projects.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present project updates and liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Willingness to Travel: Flexibility to travel to various project sites across Southern Africa.
