Job Purpose

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Fitter to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical inspections, repairs, and maintenance of equipment and infrastructure to ensure minimal downtime and operational efficiency in production.

Key Responsibilities

Repairs & Fault Diagnosis (40%)

  • Identify and rectify equipment failures promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure all repairs meet operational and safety standards.

Preventative Maintenance (15%)

  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance to prevent unexpected failures.
  • Coordinate with production teams to schedule maintenance activities.
  • Maintain detailed reports of maintenance activities.

Training & Development (10%)

  • Assist in training apprentices and junior staff.
  • Ensure that training machines are set up for skill development.

Compliance & Safety (10%)

  • Adhere to all relevant safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Report potential risks and ensure compliance with maintenance best practices.

Cost Control & Reporting (10%)

  • Monitor and optimize resource usage.
  • Report any budget deviations and cost-saving opportunities.

Customer Service & Team Support (10%)

  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate (NQF 4)
  • Trade Test: Fitter / Fitter & Turner (NQF 5)
  • Up to 3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills & Competencies:

  • Basic computer literacy (MS Office, SAP, ERP systems)
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities
  • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of relevant maintenance practices, designs, and methodologies
