Business Development Manager – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Johannesburg 

Role Summary:

Seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to grow the Battery

Energy Storage Systems (BESS) portfolio across the Southern African market. This role suits a

commercially driven professional with a solid technical foundation who can bridge the gap between

engineering solutions and customer needs. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying opportunities, engaging customers, and converting complex technical offerings into

compelling commercial value.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Development & Sales Growth

Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities within the energy and industrial sectors

Build long-term relationships with customers, EPCs, developers, and key stakeholders

Drive sales performance against agreed revenue and growth targets

Monitor regional market dynamics and contribute to go-to-market strategies

Customer Engagement & Solution Design

Engage customers to understand operational, technical, and commercial requirements

Position the company's BESS solutions as fit-for-purpose answers to customer challenges

Deliver clear and persuasive technical and commercial presentations

Support the development of tailored proposals, pricing, and solution documentation

Technical Collaboration

Work closely with internal engineering and technical teams to develop optimal solutions

Respond to technical queries during the sales cycle and post-engagement phases

Participate in product demonstrations, site meetings, and technical workshops

Market Intelligence & Continuous Improvement

Track competitor activity, emerging technologies, and industry trends

Provide structured market and customer feedback to inform product improvements

Analyse sales data to support forecasting and pipeline planning

Continuously build personal technical and commercial expertise through training and self-development

Minimum Requirements:

At least 5 years of experience in a technical sales or business development role

Strong ability to understand and communicate complex technical systems

Proven track record of customer-facing sales and relationship management

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Willingness to travel regionally and work flexible hours when required

Fluency in English (Afrikaans is an advantage)

Valid driver's licence and access to a personal vehicle

Preferred Experience & Attributes:

Exposure to the renewable energy sector, particularly battery storage or power systems

Strong commercial mindset with a consultative sales approach

High level of self-motivation, accountability, and professionalism

Qualifications:

Matric certificate (mandatory)

Qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline (advantageous)
