Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Remote Commercial Furniture Designer & Space Planning Specialist to support commercial interior and furniture projects from initial concept through proposal, quotation, and order preparation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with commercial furniture design, space planning, AutoCAD, CET/Configura, and furniture specification and quotation software. This role will be responsible for developing accurate furniture layouts and specifications, preparing quotations and proposals, reviewing architectural drawings, and coordinating with manufacturers, dealers, vendors, sales representatives, and project teams. The successful candidate should be highly organized, resourceful, and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and multitasking skills, the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and the confidence to work independently while following established processes. The position requires someone who is adaptable, self-motivated, quick to learn new systems, and committed to providing accurate and timely project support while working U.S. EST (New York) business hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop commercial furniture layouts and space plans based on client requirements, architectural drawings, and project specifications.
- Create and modify floor plans, furniture layouts, and related drawings using AutoCAD.
- Prepare furniture specifications and configurations using programs such as CET Commercial Interiors, Spec Configura, 2020 CAP, or similar platforms.
- Produce accurate furniture quotations, pricing documents, and project proposals.
- Specify furniture products, finishes, fabrics, accessories, and other components according to project requirements.
- Review architectural plans and field information to identify appropriate furniture solutions.
- Prepare detailed bills of materials and product specifications.
- Coordinate with furniture manufacturers, dealers, vendors, and suppliers regarding product availability, specifications, lead times, and pricing.
- Assist with product research and identify alternative furniture solutions when necessary.
- Ensure that specifications and drawings are accurate and consistent with client-approved designs.
- Review manufacturer catalogs, technical documentation, and pricing information.
- Revise drawings, specifications, and proposals based on client or project team feedback.
- Maintain organized project files, drawings, specifications, quotes, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate closely with sales representatives, project managers, designers, and other team members throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify potential specification or installation conflicts before orders are finalized.
- Support order preparation and verify that furniture configurations and product selections are complete and accurate.
- Manage multiple commercial projects while meeting established deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proficient level of English (written and spoken).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with clients, vendors, and teammates.
- Previous experience in commercial furniture, interior design, space planning, furniture specification, or a related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Experience with CET Commercial Interiors / Configura CET.
- Experience with Spec Configura, 2020 CAP, or comparable furniture specification and quotation software.
- Strong understanding of commercial furniture systems and space-planning principles.
- Experience preparing furniture specifications, quotations, proposals, bills of materials, and detailed product specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and floor plans.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with product numbers, dimensions, finishes, and pricing.
- Experience working with commercial furniture manufacturers or dealerships.
- Familiarity with major commercial furniture manufacturers and product lines.
- Knowledge of workplace, corporate, healthcare, education, hospitality, or other commercial furniture environments.
- Experience supporting sales teams with furniture proposals and quotations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Excel, PDF and document management tools, and furniture manufacturer specification and pricing platforms.
- 2020 CAP familiarity is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills.
