Purpose
MDF Finance Business Partner is responsible for running Market Development Fund (MDF) financial governance over business project management offices across Sub Regional clusters and countries in West and Central Africa (WCA) Region. The responsibility area covers all financial business aspects for the MDF investments: management and facilitation the development and delivery of the AOPs, Outlooks and Multi-Year Growth Plans, coordination, analysis, and review of financial data to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of all inputs/outputs, compliance with Company policies and with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP), statutory financial and tax laws. S/he collaborates with stakeholders supporting ongoing process improvement that meets business and international governance / compliance requirements while achieving strategic business and financial outcomes.
Job Description
Working in a matrixed organization, reporting directly to Sub Regional CFO, and working closely with business project management offices, MDF Finance Business Partner supports the Finance organization to provide financial business support on MDF area. Responsibility areas cover all the aspects of financial planning, analysis, and reporting, driving and maintaining high standard of financial discipline, business decision support and accountability within the designated markets. The role will constantly enhance existing MDF processes and procedures as well as propose new ones. S/he will work closely with the Sub Regional CFO and Finance team to lead the development and delivery of the Budget, Forecast(s) and Multi-Year Growth Plans driving efficiencies, monitoring resources utilization, supporting resources allocations and proposing the right costing model.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Proactive financial management of cross-functional & geography MDF planning. Financial leadership in forecast and budget process for Sub Regional markets, ensuring all relevant stakeholders process their inputs with published deadlines and corporate guidelines
- Participate in AOP & Outlooks process forecasting MDF collection and investments on a monthly/quarterly basis providing relevant input to Finance team for the budgeting process
- Run MDF related drivers trends and product mix analysis on monthly/quarterly basis
- Proactively highlight, manage and escalate risks and opportunities vs. forecast during monthly pre-close activities, to ensure timely delivery and/or repurposing of MDF commitments in-line with guidelines, and to meet quarterly utilization targets. Check contra amortization schedules and communicating to Controllership Ops timing of receipts and true ups.
- Coordinate all exceptions to the projects requiring special pre-approvals, and ensure they are presented and feedback on outcomes is given to the business.
- Participate in creation of robust country/clusters MDF plans, reviews, presentations; track/report financial progress against plans aligned with Functions, BPO and BD team
- On behalf of Sub Regional CFO organize and participate in project status meetings, in the review of actual allocation of resources vs plans to make sure the MDF is utilized without delays and the financial results are recorded in company books per plan
- Analyze all available reports, systems and dashboards to provide Sub Regional CFO a clear picture of current cluster/country MDF performance and progress towards collection and utilization targets
- Review monthly financial data to ensure that information is accurate and work closely with Functions, Controllership, BPO and BD team to investigate any abnormalities
- Follow up with Controllership and projects coordinators to keep track of incentive calculation and payments at milestone date for top priority projects. Investigate and identify cause of factors for underperforming targets/projects and work with internal stakeholders to define and implement an action plan accordingly
- Participation in continuous improvement of MDF related activities to promote a professional finance organization
- Focus on the 'People' aspect of the job; work effectively with Country/Cluster Managers, BD team, Sub Regional Leadership Team and Functions to ensure achievement of collective objectives. 'Collaborate' with others, communicate openly, and build strong relationships
- Support the MDF pricing related discussions, modelling and executive presentations on the covered markets
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, or related quantitative field
- Outstanding analytical and quantitative skills; able to resolve tough business problems with well-structured analyses
- At least 5 years of relevant financial analysis work experience in international or big local companies
- Ability to work in highly diverse international environment and deal with complexity
- Ability to learn quickly and build strong stakeholder relationships across a matrix organization
- Exhibit high-degree of tolerance for ambiguity
- Knowledge of cards business and revenues streams would be advantageous
- Conduct analysis to identify complex issues and structure and manage recommendations that drive priorities and demonstrate results to business lines
- Expert skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint. Hyperion and TM1 experience is an advantage
- Proven expertise in modelling techniques and managing large data sets
- Must be detail oriented to ensure accuracy and quality of output
- Strong bias for action and ability to proactively recognize and resolve issues
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse team and produce time sensitive deliverables
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
