JOB DESCRIPTION

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL MANAGER

ES Manager under the hierarchy of the Project Manager has the responsibility for the management of the Environmental and Social issues and contributes to the application of effective Environmental and Social procedures by providing all the necessary technical support to the ES Specialist. He implements and coordinates environmental and social plans, programs, monitoring of the environmental parameters, and compliance with environmental legal compliance in order to prevent environmental and social incidents and damages.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the preparation of Environmental Management Plans and other environmental documentation by internal and external resources;
  • Provides specialist advice to staff on environmental management and compliance issues in the planning and design of road and bridges projects and construction and maintenance works;
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards and specifications across functional units to maximise the effectiveness of environmental management activities and outcomes;
  • Assists with the development, implementation and monitoring of the Environmental;
  • Management System and Practices;
  • Responds to external enquiries about environmental issues, and liaises with other government departments on environmental matters;
  • Identifies the need for, and deliver training on environmental matters to staff and other stakeholders;
  • Maintains contact with employees to ensure consistency of environmental management;
  • Prepare Environmental Policy documents and guidelines relating to environmental health matters;
  • Investigate and manage public health incidents such as disease outbreaks;
  • Manages programmes to control public health and environmental issues associated with major public events;
  • Assess building development applications and inspect houses and public buildings to ensure they comply with environmental or health and safety standards;
  • Maintains records, prepare statistics, write reports and give evidence in court cases where health or environmental regulations have been violated;
  • Liaise with Government emergency services;
