We are looking for a motivated and results-oriented Senior Finance Consultant to join our client team and help coordinate impactful operations that drive real change.

About the Role

KfW Entwicklungsbank, one of the world's leading bilateral development banks, is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Consultant to support financial sustainability initiatives within the energy sector across the Western Balkans.

The consultant will support Technical Assistance (TA) activities under the EFSD+ program, focusing on strengthening financial performance and transparency of regional power utilities as part of the transition toward a market-oriented green energy sector.

This role requires strong expertise in financial analysis, financial reporting remediation, and financial due diligence, particularly in environments where financial data may be complex, incomplete, or non-standardized.

The selected consultant will conduct financial reporting GAP analyses and provide actionable recommendations aligned with international standards such as IFRS and GAAP.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Analysis & Assessment

  • Analyze annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Review accounting policies and evaluate consistency over time.
  • Perform Quality of Earnings (QoE) analysis, including identification of non-recurring items and EBITDA adjustments.
  • Assess sustainability of earnings and cash flows.

Financial Performance Evaluation

  • Evaluate key financial indicators including:
    • profitability
    • solvency
    • liquidity
    • operational efficiency
  • Benchmark financial KPIs against industry peers.
  • Identify financial strengths, weaknesses, and improvement opportunities.

Financial Risk Assessment & Investment Support

  • Identify financial risks, trend deviations, and potential misstatements.
  • Assess working capital requirements and debt obligations.
  • Support investment analyses including valuation models and scenario analysis.

Financial Due Diligence & Reporting

  • Prepare structured financial due diligence reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with legal, tax, and operational experts during assessments.

Green Finance Market Analysis

  • Conduct market surveys of banking products and subsidy schemes supporting green investments.
  • Map financial instruments available for energy sector transformation.
  • Prepare structured market overviews outlining financing terms and eligibility criteria.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Compliance

  • Participate in meetings with utilities, investors, development institutions, and project partners.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and internal audit standards.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and sector trends.

Data Management

  • Maintain organized financial documentation and audit trails.
  • Utilize financial analysis tools and reporting software.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial advisory or financial consulting roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Financial due diligence
    • Quality of earnings analysis
    • Financial reporting remediation
    • IFRS conversion projects
    • Financial planning & analysis (FP&A)
    • Audit or advisory services
  • Experience with state-owned enterprises and/or the energy sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with:
    • international financial institutions
    • development banks
    • EU or EU-funded programs

Technical Skills

  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Experience with data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI) is an advantage.

Languages

  • Fluent English (written and spoken).
  • Knowledge of German is considered an asset.

Preferred Certifications

  • CFA – Chartered Financial Analyst
  • CPA – Certified Public Accountant
