For our client Lidl, German international discount supermarket chain that operates over 12,000 stores across Europe and the United States, we are looking for:

TAX CONSULTANT

Purpose of the reference position is to guarantee the compliance with all intra- and intercompany rules, laws and regulations (for tax purposes), as well as the optimal form of business processes from a tax perspective. The reference position holder is also the contact person for the operational teams in all tax matters, respectively in terms of system-related topics and contributes to the development and expansion of professional competence in the field of taxation (income tax, value added tax, other taxes and levies).

Key responsibilities:

  • Compliance to tax liabilities, respectively claiming rights
  • Analysis of applicable law and legislative changes
  • Preparation and submission of tax returns, registrations and notifications (value added tax, income tax, other taxes which is in the scope of responsibilities of the Tax Department), as well as other tax-relevant registrations
  • Monitoring of tax payments due and tax refunds
  • Ensuring the implementation of tax accounting and determining the tax positions for the annual accounts (current taxes and deferred taxes)
  • Reporting to tax and finance leadership, strategic team support on corporate tax matters (compliance and advisory) to include:
  • Preparing supporting working papers for year-end tax accounting (including deferred tax); month end tax accounting; packs for corporation tax filings;
  • Audit of accounting systems and analysis of outputs from other departments
  • Analysis of expenditure for tax purposes including capital allowances and land remediation
  • Ad hoc advisory projects to include: evaluating business initiatives and expansions; transfer pricing; analyzing impact of new Tax Regulations
  • Close working with other specialists in the tax team, internal stakeholders, information providers, external advisers and Revenue authorities
  • Dealing with tax queries, tasks and deadlines
  • Analyzing and testing compliance controls
  • Establishing working procedures and processes in the field, compliant both to the local regulation and the company international working standards

Key Qualifications and competences:

  • University Degree in finance and accounting;
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a similar position in finance, accounting with specialization in taxes
  • ACA/ACCA/CA; or Tax Specialist or other tax equivalent
  • Highly experienced tax practitioner with reviewing skills and expertise in functional area
  • Efficient ability to audit accounting systems
  • Extensive experience working in industry and a genuine passion to learn and build on your experience
  • Strong analytical, numeracy and accounting skills
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritise conflicting deadlines within a varied workload
  • Confident communication skills and ability to work well in a team
  • PC literacy - a good working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • English language knowledge, German is a plus
  • Self-motivation and a proactive mind-set with a can-do attitude and the ability to work on projects and solve problems independently
