COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a feeding scheme supplier and manufacturer of quality dry powder food products. They are looking for a Junior SHEQ Officer to join their team as soon as possible.
JOB DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
In this role, the Junior SHEQ Officer (JSO) will assist in implementing and maintaining health and safety system to ensure compliance with ISO 45001:2018. The JSO will also assist with risk assessments, conducting safety inspections as well as carrying out Quality Control (QC) duties in the factory.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS).
- Assist with development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with ensuring that all the legal training is kept up to date (forklift drivers licenses, fire fighters certificates & first aiders certificates).
- Assist with conducting internal systems audits & closing of audit findings as well as participation in third party audits.
- Carry out toolbox talks.
- Assist with accident / Incident reporting, investigation and prevention.
- Coordinate annual medical screening for staff.
- Coordinate monthly SHE Committee meetings.
- Induction of new employees and visitors.
- Provide training and support to employees, ensuring they are aware of potential SHE and Food safety risks.
- Assist in ensuring that all safety equipment is well maintained and readily available on-site.
- Ensure that SHE Reps are doing their inspections and SHE Rep registers are completed always.
- Issuing of PPE and accurate record keeping.
- Support quality control (QC) activities in the factory, including receiving raw materials, sample collection, product inspections, and filling of quality check sheets.
- Inspects and monitors the quality of in-process food production batches on an hourly basis, including consistency, counts, weights, and compliance with food quality control and sanitation standards and procedures.
- Assist with monitoring all production areas of the factory to ensure compliance with established food safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with GMP and hygiene inspections in the factory.
- Assist with product development.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12
- 3-year tertiary qualification in Safety Management or a similar qualification
- ISO 45001:2018 certification (advantageous)
- First Aid certification (advantageous)
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- At least 1 year experience in a food manufacturing environment will be an added advantage
- Computer literate in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A team player
