COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a trader, recycler and distributor of scrap metal with operations in Foundry, Scrap Metal, Logistics, Clearing and Forwarding. They are looking for a Shipping Manager to join their team as soon as possible. This position is based in Boksburg, Gauteng.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement overall shipping strategy
- Manage freight costs budget, including variance analysis, forecasting and reporting
- Manage and negotiate shipping rates between various corridors with shipping lines
- Responsible for managing a routine of shipments and distribution of standard requirements for export shipments.
- Maintain and distribute shipping schedule to freight forwarders/ OPS Team
- Manage crucial documents such as bills of lading, pickup slips, deport releases, shipping notices ETC.
- Ensure all daily shipping routes are completed and all documentation associated with the daily routing process is controlled
- Partner with Operations Manager on scheduling based on business needs and tasks
- Develop standard work, establish and track metrics based on customer requirements, and identify gaps in expected and actual performance for warehousing, distribution and logistics processes
- Develop the new business area, build up the relationship with potential customers and business mode
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, Clearing Agents and Customs for inspections on stops and releases.
- Submit shipping instructions to shipping lines
- Direct the flow of shipments from packing to SOB
- Arrange Ocean Freight payments once containers have been stacked/SOB
- Arrange BL releases/courier
- Set and control shipping and distribution budget
- Build and maintain professional relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders (such as warehouse workers, vendors, purchasing managers, suppliers etc.
- Identify shipping issues and implement solutions in a timely manner
- Suggest solutions for process optimization
- Ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulation
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Matric
- Tertiary qualification in in Supply Chain, Logistics or similar field
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Proven experience in shipping and logistics management, preferably in a supervisory role
- Knowledge of relevant shipping regulations and documentation
- Familiarity with international trade compliance, including import/export regulations and trade restrictions.
- Experience in using shipping software and warehouse management systems
- Strong understanding of transportation modes
- Demonstrated ability to manage and negotiate contracts with transportation carriers
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced shipping environment
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring that all shipping documentation and labels are correct
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations, trade compliance, and customs procedures
- Proficient in shipping software, warehouse management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to quickly resolve shipping issues and make informed decisions
- Strong leadership and team management skills to motivate and supervise shipping staff
- Analytical and data-driven mindset for analyzing shipping data and identifying areas for improvement
- Understanding of transportation and logistics concepts, including carrier selection, routes, and cost optimization
- Good knowledge of shipping and packaging techniques to ensure product safety during transit
