Our client is one of South Africa's largest franchise retailers and is looking for a Butchery Supervisor and Blockman to join their team as soon as possible. The position is based in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee the daily operations of the butchery, including staff supervision, training, and workflow management
• Ensures meat quality, adherence to food safety regulations, and proper handling and storage of meat products
• Manages stock levels, ensures proper rotation, and minimizes waste
• Handles customer inquiries, complaints, and special orders, and provides a positive customer experience
• Manages butchery budgets, monitors sales performance, and identifies areas for improvement
• Ensures adherence to all relevant food safety regulations, health codes, and company policies
• Cuts meat according to production plans and customer orders, using various butchery equipment, including band saws
• Prepares meat for retail display, including weighing, packaging, and portioning
• Ensure proper stock rotation, maintain inventory levels, and prevent spoilage
• Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment, including equipment, tools, and work surfaces
• Operates and maintains all butchery equipment, including band saws, meat grinders, and other tools
• Assist customers with inquiries, special orders, and preparing meat cut

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Blockman / butcher related qualifications will be beneficial

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• 3 - 5 Years experience as a Blockman
• Retail experience
• Supervisory experience
• Requires a high level of knife skills and knowledge of different meat cuts
• Involves lifting and handling heavy cuts of meat
• Attention to detail
