COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

Our client, a manufacturer, supplier and installer of specialist equipment, is looking for an Electrical Draughting and Cost Engineer to join their team.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Price/forecast the cost of the different materials needed for the project.
  • Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities, BOM and other documentation.
  • Track changes to the design and/or projects and adjust budget projections accordingly.
  • Measure and value the work done on site.
  • Liaise with the client, site managers, project managers and site engineers.
  • Select and/or source project materials.
  • Write reports.
  • Undertakes relevant research and advises on alternatives.
  • Analyses and interpret data, and able to do costing based on this.
  • Assist projects departments outside of Engineering when required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient, effective functioning of the work unit and successful completion of projects which may be required from time to time.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Read & understand total requirements for Tenders & Projects.
  • The first part of a project is the design stage, and you'll have a range of specific responsibilities you're required to undertake during that period.
  • Assist in establishing a clients requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
  • Run cost analyses of the various types of work as a forerunner to tender preparation.
  • Select, price and source materials.
  • Identify commercial risks and help develop suitable responses.
  • When the project moves into the building stage your responsibilities will expand into confirming all projects run smoothly on production, any changes will be reverted back to the Engineering Department.
  • Prepare the tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, with the Engineers and the client.
  • Monitor and control costs throughout the project.
  • Analyse progress and write detailed reports.
  • Liaise between site managers, project managers, site engineers and the client.
  • Advise on designs and drawings to align the requirements and installations to best practices.
  • Conduct debriefing meetings with team and Engineering Manager.
  • Check that all materials are available to commence Project and communicate any foreseen shortages to Engineering Manager.
  • Ensure that all related equipment is in working order and allocated to the project timely.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • Professional certification as a listed Electrical Engineer (ECSA)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • At least 3 years experience in a similar position
  • Able to do HVAC design from first principles
  • Construction estimating or Finance experience advantageous
  • Exceptional in AutoCAD Rivet
  • Thorough knowledge of all Electrical practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools
  • Able to do costing for approval by Project Manager and Engineering Manager based on designs
  • Able to read designs and produce and prepare draft designs in accordance with required specifications, including draughting
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work at hand
  • Extensive knowledge of all Electrical practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work the project team in their duties
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, drawings
  • Good communication skills: Fluent in English
  • Ability to provide verbal and/or written technical instructions
  • Methodical way of thinking
  • Good knowledge of projects
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good financial and numeracy management skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills
  • The ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements readily
  • Computer literate, good working knowledge of MS Excel and the ability to learn how to use specialist software
  • Computer Literate (MS Office, Internet etc.)
  • Valid drivers license and passport
