Our client is one of the leading wholesale suppliers of promotional gifts and clothing and they are looking for an energetic and creative Layout Artist to join their team as soon as possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Layout Artist is responsible for preparing, designing, and finalizing artwork for production and printing across multiple media. They will ensure brand consistency, accurate artwork preparation, and creative layouts that meet client specifications and production standards.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and prepare layouts for branding, packaging, signage, print, and digital applications
  • Use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop extensively for artwork creation, editing, and proofing
  • Ensure that designs are production-ready (bleeds, cut marks, colour profiles, resolutions)
  • Adapt artwork across different formats while maintaining consistency
  • Collaborate with clients, account managers, and the production team to ensure creative and technical requirements are met
  • Troubleshoot artwork issues, including image resolution, fonts, and colour matching
  • Maintain an organized digital archive of artwork files
  • Deliver high-quality work within deadlines

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Matric
  • Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field (preferred)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • 5+ years proven experience as a Layout Artist, Graphic Designer, or Pre-Press Artist.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating layout, composition, and technical skills in Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Experience in the branding, print, or signage industry is highly advantageous.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Working knowledge of colour management, CMYK/RGB conversions, spot colors, and ICC profiles.
  • Strong understanding of typography, spacing, alignment, and composition.
  • Knowledge of pre-press requirements, DTF, sublimation, screen printing, and embroidery setup (advantageous).
  • Ability to prepare and troubleshoot print-ready artwork.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Creative flair with strong layout and visual sense.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for artwork and production challenges.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Highly organized with good time management.
