Position Overview
An industrial automation and production organization seeks a senior Controls Technician for a six-month onsite contract in San Leandro, California. This role owns automation and control systems, keeping production equipment operating reliably and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled production equipment, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and field instrumentation
- Work within PLC programs to diagnose logic faults and make approved modifications under change control
- Calibrate instrumentation and verify proper operation of control panels and safety systems
- Maintain machine safety systems — interlocks, light curtains, and e-stop circuits — in full compliance
- Document control system changes, wiring modifications, and program backups accurately
- Support root cause analysis on recurring faults using alarm logs and trend data
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance and production colleagues
Requirements
- Significant hands-on experience as a controls, automation, or instrumentation technician
- PLC troubleshooting proficiency and ability to read ladder logic and electrical schematics
- Working knowledge of VFDs, motor control, and industrial networking
- Lockout/tagout and arc flash safety competency
- Availability for full onsite assignment in San Leandro, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLC and programming environment experience
- Familiarity with EtherNet/IP, Profibus, or DeviceNet
- Associate degree or technical certification in electrical technology, automation, or mechatronics
