About the job Corporate Tax Director
Corporate Tax Director
Location: Los Angeles, California (Hybrid)
Salary Range: $197,800 – $255,904 per year
Position Overview
Our client, a national professional services firm, is seeking a Corporate Tax Director for a hybrid, permanent position based in Los Angeles, California. This is a senior leadership appointment with accountability for a significant client portfolio and for the growth of the corporate tax practice in the market.
The role suits a tax leader who combines deep technical authority with commercial instinct and the credibility to be the firm's senior voice in front of client leadership. It carries meaningful influence over practice direction and over the careers of the people in it.
Key Responsibilities
You will hold overall accountability for a portfolio of corporate tax clients, serving as the senior relationship owner, setting engagement strategy, and standing behind the technical positions the firm takes on their behalf.
You will provide authoritative technical leadership on complex corporate tax matters, including ASC 740 for sophisticated structures, transaction and restructuring analysis, multistate and international considerations, and the resolution of contentious positions with authorities.
You will drive practice growth through business development, including pursuit of new clients, expansion within existing relationships, proposal leadership, and visible participation in the professional market.
You will lead and develop managers and senior staff, owning talent decisions, career development, and technical training within the practice, and you will contribute to practice management including resourcing, quality and risk oversight, and financial performance.
You will act as a senior escalation point on quality and risk matters across the practice, consulting on complex positions raised by managers, engaging national technical resources where appropriate, and ensuring the practice's approach to documentation and consultation is applied consistently.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and active CPA licensure are required, together with extensive corporate tax experience in public accounting at a level consistent with a director appointment.
You must have demonstrated technical authority across federal, multistate, and ASC 740 corporate tax matters, and a track record of owning senior client relationships and leading engagement teams.
Proven business development capability, sound risk and quality judgment, and the leadership skill to develop managers are essential. The role follows a hybrid schedule based in Los Angeles, California.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master of Taxation or JD with tax focus is preferred. Deep experience in a specific industry vertical such as technology, media, entertainment, real estate, or private equity is highly valued in this market.
Experience with international tax structuring, transaction advisory, IPO or transaction readiness, and controversy or examination defense is advantageous, as is an established professional network in the Los Angeles market and prior involvement in practice or office leadership.
Prior responsibility for a practice's financial performance, including realization and pipeline management, is valued. Candidates with a visible market presence through speaking, writing, or professional association leadership, and with experience recruiting senior talent, will be particularly well suited.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a permanent, full-time position with a salary range of $197,800 to $255,904 per year, reflecting the seniority of the appointment and based on experience, credentials, and portfolio scope.
You will hold a genuinely senior position with ownership of client relationships and influence over the direction of the practice, in a market with substantial corporate tax opportunity. The firm offers a defined path toward partnership for directors who build and lead successfully, alongside hybrid flexibility.
This is a contract engagement placed through our recruiting team. We work closely with our contract professionals throughout the assignment, from onboarding and first-week check-ins through to end-of-contract planning, and we actively look for the next opportunity for people who deliver well. Many of our contract placements lead to extensions, repeat assignments, or permanent conversion.
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Reasonable accommodations are available during the application and interview process on request. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the engagement.
