Lead Business Analyst - Energy Trading and ISO Power Markets
Location: Palm Beach, Florida
Pay Rate: $53.00 – $55.00 per hour
Position Overview
Our client, a global technology services organization, is seeking a Lead Business Analyst with energy trading and ISO power market expertise for an onsite, six-month contract engagement in Palm Beach, Florida. The role sits at the intersection of commercial trading operations and the technology platforms that support them.
This position suits an analyst who genuinely understands wholesale power markets and can translate that domain knowledge into clear, buildable requirements. It is a lead role, carrying responsibility for analysis quality and for guiding stakeholders to well-formed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
You will lead requirements gathering across energy trading, scheduling, settlements, and risk functions, running workshops with commercial and operations stakeholders and translating complex market processes into clear functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
You will analyse and document business processes across the trade lifecycle, including deal capture, position management, scheduling and bidding into ISO markets, settlement and invoice validation, and regulatory reporting, identifying gaps and improvement opportunities along the way.
You will act as the domain bridge between business users and technical delivery teams, supporting solution design decisions, clarifying requirements during build, reviewing that delivered functionality matches intent, and maintaining traceability from requirement through to test.
You will define and support test activity including test scenario design, user acceptance testing coordination, and defect triage, and you will provide analytical leadership to other business analysts on the engagement, reviewing their deliverables and raising the overall standard of documentation.
You will produce and maintain data mapping and interface specifications between trading, scheduling, settlement, and accounting systems, ensuring that market data, positions, and settlement values reconcile correctly across the estate. You will also support post-implementation stabilization, analysing production issues, distinguishing data problems from logic defects, and driving fixes through to resolution.
Requirements
Substantial business analysis experience is required, at a level consistent with a lead role, including ownership of requirements deliverables on complex technology programmes.
Demonstrated working knowledge of energy trading and ISO or RTO power markets is essential, covering areas such as day-ahead and real-time markets, congestion and locational pricing, ancillary services, scheduling, and settlements.
You must have strong requirements documentation and process modelling skills, confident stakeholder facilitation across commercial and technical audiences, and solid data analysis capability including SQL and advanced spreadsheet work. This role is onsite in Palm Beach, Florida.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with energy trading and risk management platforms such as Allegro, Endur, or comparable ETRM systems is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with specific ISO market rules and systems, exposure to FERC or NERC regulatory reporting requirements, Agile delivery experience with tools such as Jira and Confluence, and business analysis certification such as CBAP are all advantageous.
Experience with renewables, storage, or demand response participation in wholesale markets is increasingly valuable and viewed positively. Familiarity with power market simulation or forecasting tools, exposure to credit and collateral processes, and prior experience in a utility, independent power producer, or trading house environment are all advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
This engagement pays an hourly rate in the range of $53.00 to $55.00, based on experience and depth of domain knowledge, across a six-month contract with a defined end date.
You will work on a substantive energy technology programme with direct exposure to commercial trading operations, in a lead capacity that builds both domain and delivery credentials. Extension may be available depending on performance and programme requirements.
