Job Description:

Overseas Employment (Global Access to Talent from India)

India has the largest immigrant community globally at 18 million with 0.7-1M Indians going abroad to work annually. India already receives $125 billion in remittances annually, surpassing any single category of merchandise exports. However, given its population base, India is still way below its full potential.

The labour gap in high-income economies is expected to increase to 40-45M over the next 5-7 years driven by ageing populations and economic growth. This will be driven by top 20 countries and in blue-collar jobs (50%) and nursing/ healthcare (20%). Responding to this demand, historically closed countries like Germany, Japan, South Korea are opening up their borders. However there is a lot of competition- Philippines, Indonesia, Egypt, Vietnam, Brazil and with India also set to lose its demographic advantage to Africa in the 2030s.

The goal for India should be to send 1.5-2M workers abroad globally into high paying, high quality jobs, with a remittance of $300B annually. In the new global workforce paradigm, overseas employment will be circular. The returning migrants will come back with much higher skills along with high savings improving the quality of life of their entire family.

However, this growth will not happen organically. There are various challenges throughout this process, 1) Political and public concerns over migrants long term settlement, altering local demographics- impacting visa availability, 2) Visa / bureaucratic constraints with creating barriers to entry despite existence of visa regimes, 3) Limited & disaggregated demand from employers with limited awareness of Indian talent, 4) Skilling gaps vs. requirement and non-recognition of Indian certifications or degrees and 5) Financing barriers with prohibitive costs for immigrants and limited lending options.

To address this, we intend to incubate a new organisation with the singular focus on accelerating overseas employment for Indian workers and to stay with this problem for the long term. This organisation will be focused on deep action oriented research to unlock barriers in key employment pathways, drive salience of this issue nationally and internationally, build an entire ecosystem focused on overseas employment and do pilots that can be scaled. Core partners of this initiative include TCF, individuals such as Manish Sabharwal, ecosystem enablers such as LaMP. BCG is a knowledge partner on this effort with an ongoing study that releases in December 24.

We are seeking entrepreneurial professionals to join our founding team as Associate Partners (12+ years of experience), Project Leads (6+ years of experience), and Project Managers (3+ years of experience). Ideal candidates should have a background in management consulting, be smart generalists, possess a unique problem-solving approach, and thrive in ambiguous environments, with a passion for building organisations.

With India's vast labour potential and growing global demand for skilled talent, we aim to incubate an organisation dedicated to accelerating overseas employment for Indian workers.

This organisation will conduct deep, action-oriented research, drive awareness at national and international levels, and develop scalable pilot projects to unlock key employment pathways.

If this opportunity of positioning India as the global supplier of talent through circular talent excites you, please join us in this journey of enhancing the life of millions of Indians!
