Overview

STEP (Skilling, Training and Employability for Prosperity Foundation) is a skills think tank dedicated towards research & policy, capacity building, and unlocking capital in Indias skilling sector. STEP seeks a highly motivated Research Analyst to support its mission of building a future-ready workforce through data-driven insights and research.

The candidate will contribute to the development and curation of knowledge products on key development sectors such as skilling, education, and employability. This role requires strong analytical skills to synthesize complex data, conduct primary and secondary research, and support strategic philanthropy initiatives aimed at scaling impactful skilling and employment programs. The Research Analyst will collaborate closely with stakeholders, including industry experts, philanthropic partners, and government bodies, to inform actionable insights and policy recommendations.

Role and Responsibilities

Research & Data Analysis

  • Collect, clean, and analyze workforce and labor market data from public and private sources.
  • Support survey and interview design for primary and secondary research.
  • Develop dashboards, charts, and infographics to reveal talent-market trends and gaps.

Industry Demand & Market Insights

  • Conduct desk research and consultations to track sectoral hiring, role requirements, and skilling needs, especially in high-growth industries.
  • Help produce sectoral workforce reports and periodic talent-market mapping outputs.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare policy briefs, presentations, and research reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure high-quality, evidence-based documentation and insight generation.

Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide analytical and organizational support in multi-stakeholder forums, workshops, and meetings.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelors degree in Economics, Data Science, Public Policy, or related disciplines (Masters preferred).
  • 2 to 5 years relevant experience in data analysis, workforce research, consulting, experience in research and analysis focused on social sector themes, preferably skilling, education, or development industries. Preference for ex-management consultants from top-tier firms (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain) or comparable strategy consulting backgrounds.
  • High proficiency in stakeholder management, analytical problem-solving, project-based work, and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative insights.​
  • Advance skills in Excel or Power BI. Proficiency in using research and data visualization tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Experience working with government, think tanks, or interdisciplinary teams is desirable
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines. Entrepreneurial mindset with high intellectual curiosity and passion for social impact and philanthropy.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for research and fieldwork (primary base: Delhi).

Reporting Structure:

Research Analysts will report to the STEP Foundation Project Manager or Team Lead in Delhi.
