Overview

Lead emergency nursing operations at a 585+ bed Level I Trauma Center in Kansas City, Missouri, recognized for comprehensive stroke, cardiac, burn, and emergency services. This Emergency Room Manager role provides hands-on leadership for the main campus emergency department, reporting to the Interim ED Director. The facility serves as a regional destination for critical care with specialty programs including Chest Pain Center, Primary Stroke Center, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, Women's Care, and orthopedics across multiple Kansas City locations. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing leadership for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care and safety across the main campus emergency department.
  • Collaborate with physicians, administrative leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient and family needs in a Level I Trauma environment.
  • Ensure quality care through initiation and evaluation of patient care utilizing performance improvement processes and evidence-based practices.
  • Manage departmental resources in a fiscally responsible manner including staffing, supply utilization, and budget oversight.
  • Support facility mission, vision, and values while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
  • Oversee daily emergency department operations including patient flow, throughput, and coordination with trauma, stroke, and cardiac programs.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and nursing standards to optimize emergency care delivery and regulatory compliance.
  • Build and retain high-performing teams through talent acquisition, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Monitor quality metrics, patient satisfaction scores, and operational benchmarks to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards for emergency services and trauma care.
  • Serve as visible, accessible leader providing guidance and support to nursing staff during high-volume and emergent situations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current Missouri RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Emergency Department management experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification - American Heart Association or American Red Cross - required upon hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification - American Heart Association or American Red Cross - required upon hire
  • ENPC (Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course) OR PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required upon hire
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) OR ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses) required within 1 year of hire
  • Strong leadership, communication, and operational management skills
  • Expertise in Level I Trauma operations and emergency care delivery

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Specialty certification in emergency nursing (CEN preferred)
  • Experience in high-volume Level I Trauma emergency departments
  • Background in stroke, cardiac, and burn patient care
